It’s official! Sunday, October 2nd, in Japan T-ara has surpassed SNSD’s Genie in terms of first week sales. Genie was SNSD’s debut single and it debuted with 44,907 copies
T-ara stands at 47,864 with Bo Peep Bo Peep.
T-ara’s daily sales numbers are as follows:
So many girl group magazine pictures this month! Here are some of my favorites since there are so many! It’s amazing.
I learned something today that I can’t resist sharing.
Can you guess what physical feature they have in common before reading?
Something I’ve known for a while but didn’t really care about was the fact that on Kpop idols having fat under their eyes, in Korea, is considered cute. I wasn’t too phased by the trend but today I finally figured out what that fat is called. Or at least a slang term for it. It probably has a more technical term that I don’t know right now. Anyway, that fat is called 애교살. For those who can read Korean, now you know where I got the post title. For those who can’t read Korean it is called “aegyo sal”.
Aegyo is a common term to describe idols who act cute for attention in Kpop fandom (SNSD’s Sunny is quite known for aegyo as is/was Super Junior’s Sungmin). Aegyo means something like charm. Aegyo is meant to draw people to you and most often it’s done in a cute manner.
Sunny: Yoona has a lot of aegyosal!
What’s fun about aegyo sal is that it means something like “charming fat”. I also noticed that a some of the girls that are considered the most popular or the most attractive in their bands all have this trait. Yoona, Kahi, Sulli, Ivy, Kang Minkyung, Hara, Suzy and Lee Hyori all have aegyo sal.
Aegyo sal should not be confused with bags under the eyes from a lack of sleep, however. There is a difference.
Do you have a favorite idol with “charming fat” under their eyes? I’ve always been drawn to Seohyun’s myself when I noticed such things.
Enjoy the aegyo sal!
SM Town Paris landed in Le Monde news. If you become familiar with anything French (outside a high school French class in most cases) you’ll hear Le Monde pop up at least once. Le Monde means “The World” it’s a daily newspaper that covers various things and world affairs.
SM Town Paris landed in Le Monde and since my French is better than my Korean I decided to do a brief overview of the article. Needless to say, I was fairly excited to see Le Monde and SM Town together.
Word of warning, it’s not my fault if the article forgot to mention your favorite boy band.
Mr. Taxi, Taxi, Taxi, I am landing at first place on the Oricon~!
Ok, so that’s not really how the song goes but, Shoujo shidai who released their Japanese debut album snagged first place on the weekly album charts. Congrats to them.
Single Weekly Rankings: Jang Geun Suk’s single is still in the top 20, 2pm and SNSD are still in the top 30, and Kara is still in the top 35.
Album Weekly Rankings I Missed: Big Bang where I expected a lower top 10 or upper top 20 spot came in at number 7. That’s lower top 10~ FT Island also had their album take the number one spot on the weekly rankings!
Kpop in Japan Round Ups have gotten a bit boring on my end. Do you like them? If so say so.
Do you like the round ups?
‘소시’ 태연 맞아? ‘청순실종’…파격 의상 충격적
Soshi’s Taeyeon right? ’Innocence disappears’… exceptional shocking costume!
맞아 - right?
‘청순실종’ - innocence + disappears, to go away, gone
파격 - In this case it means exceptional
의상 - clothes, garment, costume
I am fairly confident that the translation of 파격 does not mean cheap in this case since Taeyeon has been credited as “being responsible for sexy Soshi,” which doesn’t sound like an insult to me.
Want the full sized image? It’s under the cut!
I can’t be the only girl in Kpop fandom that’s looked at the bodies of these girl groups and at some point went “want”, I really can’t.
These diets, however, get a lot of controversy from international fans and some of it is misinformed. That’s what this post is for. This post will cover Kara and Soshi since they are the two most known for their diets and bodies.
Disclaimer: I do not endorse or encourage anyone to try any type of diet at all. This post is purely educational; you do diets at your own risk, after consulting a doctor. I am not a doctor! I am not qualified to help you with your diet in anyway/shape/form. This post is based on research and personal experience only.
Kara - “We Starve Ourselves”
This one IS unhealthy! Avoid this one at all costs! Their diet where they watch calories and carbohydrate intake is much healthier. However, that diet is very similar to SNSD’s.
This week includes: SNSD, Jang Geun Suk, and MBLAQ!
This week was a firece battle on the Oricon between SNSD and actor Jang Geun Suk, who landed first on the charts? Find out that and more under the cut! (Includes pictures and videos)
Who came out on top of the charts this week; Jang Geun Suk with his debut single “Let Me Cry” while SNSD had to settle with second place with “Mr. Taxi” but these two Korean acts weren’t alone on the charts this week! Kara with “Jet Coaster Love” held on to a top 10 spot for yet another week coming in at number nine! This is Kara’s fourth week in the top ten! That’s not all as well, on May 5th four of the ten spots on the daily charts are taken up by Korean artists! 힘내세요 Kpop!
Special Mention: FT Island These boys somehow fell through the cracks between the two weekly updates I’ve done.
I tend to avoid Kpop artists Japanese works for this blog because this is a Korean language blog so I feel like I get no benefit in Japanese language things, but Super Junior is right in the blog description and they’re going to Japan! So I decided I would do a Kpop in Japan roundup. Enjoy the pictures and information under the cut.
This week includes: SNSD, Kara, Super Junior
What is a 완판녀? I did some searching today and I’m still not completely sure but I get the impression that it is a women that is capable of selling things. And not just like normal sales but making the things they advertise sell out. People want want wanpannyeo’s are selling.
Why did I look this up? Because of this:
“소녀시대 잡지 품절, `완판녀` 등극…1등은 서현 2등은 윤아”
This means something like “Girls Generation’s Magazines Sell Out, `완판녀` crowned 1st place is Seohyun 2nd place is Yoona.”
The nine girls were on the cover for Marie Claire recently. It was a special edition of Marie Claire that had a cover for each of the nine members. So this is basically saying Seohyun’s version sold out first and then came Yoona.
잡지 - magazine
품절 - to be sold out / to run out of stock
등극 - crowned / to be crowned
등 - rank / ranking
“SNSD, armed with sexy charisma transform into Yellow Soshi.”
A real article title I took from Naver. I happen to like Yellow Soshi.

카리스마 - charisma (this is an English word put in Korean letters)
무장한 - armed (like to arm oneself with something) 무장 is the verb. (Naver Dictionary)

소시 - soshi
